Coronavirus Archdiocese Update Sept 20

Coronavirus Update as at 25th September 2020
The following advice was received from the Archbishop on Friday of this week,
Most of the Archdiocese is now under not just national rulings but also local lockdown regulations.
It seems clear that:
From NOW:
Home visits should not be taking place, so the permission for visiting with Holy Communion should not be
used at the moment.

From Monday 28th September:
Baptisms: There can only be 6 people present (the rule of 6 applies.)

Weddings: There can only be 15 in the Church and for the reception.

Funerals: The number remains at 30 (although any reception is now limited to a gathering of 6).
As a result, those attending funerals, apart from the immediate family,
will be asked to take their seats in Church before the Service begins.

1st Communions: Small groups (not more than 6 people) are allowed to celebrate 1st Communions
within a special Mass. As the arrangements that we had already made fall within this criteria,
the 1st Communion celebrations planned for the next three weeks will go ahead.

QR Codes: The new track and trace NHS app asks that places of worship set up a QR bar code and have it
on posters around the entrances to churches so that people can use a smart phone to register their presence.
Each of our Churches now has its own unique QR code which you will find on posters at the entrance to
the Church.

Once again, I would remind you that we are only able to open our Churches at all thanks to the generosity
of those who have volunteered to steward and clean the Churches before and after services. They have now
been doing so continuously for 3 months. As more people are now coming back to Mass, I would ask you
once again to consider whether you can give some time to help in this regard.

Sacramental Programme Update

Father John writes:

Dear Parents,
Celebration of the Sacrament the Eucharist
As you know, one of the unfortunate consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic was that we were unable
to complete the Sacramental Preparation Programme and hold the celebration of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Like me, I am sure that you are keen for this to be able to take place as soon as possible, and so am writing
to invite you to attend a meeting in St. Oswald’s Church at 6.30pm on Tuesday 22nd September
(Group 1) or Wednesday 23rd September (Group 2) to discuss what arrangements can be made with
a view to these celebrations being held by the Autumn half-term holidays. This meeting will be for parents
and children together and will take place in Church to ensure adequate distancing.
I recognise that some of you may have concerns about your children taking part at this time, and would
understand if you chose not to. If so, I would simply ask that you let me know so that we know exactly who
is involved. If you so wish, your child will be included in the celebrations next year.
I would also be grateful if you would let me know if you are unable to attend this meeting so that
alternative arrangements can be made, otherwise it will be assumed that you no longer wish to take part.

Facemasks need to be worn by adults, optional for the children.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Fr John Gorman

Father John celebrates mass today to commemorate the anniversary of St Edmund Arrowsmith. This mass has been said in Arrowsmith House at Brindle where it is thought Edmund celebrated his last mass before being captured and martyred.

Resumption of Services

Resumption of Services
As part of the on-going cautious re-opening of our Churches, the next phase will see the resumption of devotions at Our Lady’s from the beginning of September i.e. the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour on Wednesdays at 7.00pm, Holy Hour on Fridays at 7.00pm, and First Saturday Mass and Devotions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary from 10.00am.
As a result, Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament at St. Oswald’s on Wednesday and Friday evenings will end from the
beginning of September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have helped to facilitate this time of prayer since the beginning of July.

Holy Hand Pilgrimage Mass August 20

Holy Hand Pilgrimage Mass
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Canonisation of the 40 Martyrs of England & Wales and, although not as we might have originally planned the Pilgrimage Mass to the Holy Hand of St. Edmund Arrowsmith will go ahead at 2.00pm on Sunday 30th August.
This gives us the opportunity to celebrate the Adult Baptisms, Receptions and Confirmations which had to be postponed from the Easter Vigil, so please pray for those who are to celebrate this Sacraments of Initiation, and their families, at this important stage of their lives.

We welcome all those pilgrims and visitors who may wish to attend this mass which will be held in accordance with Archdiocesan social distancing guidelines
